Maison de Mahj grew from a school-auction lesson and games at home into a dedicated American Mahjong studio in Lafayette, Louisiana. The Current’s September 18, 2026, profile follows founders Heidi Robinson and Lyndley McNabb, who developed the business while keeping their full-time jobs.
The studio opened in October 2025 with beginner instruction, open play, leagues and retail. The profile reports that approximately 350 people had learned to play during its first ten months, with demand for beginner classes exceeding the founders’ teaching capacity.
Its comfortable, home-like setting addresses a practical problem for regular players: finding a place to gather without preparing a house, organizing food and clearing space for tables.
